Leaning Into Interdependence: Creating a Culture of Giving and Receiving

An Elul Workshop with Kathy Simon

August 20, 2023 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm PDT

Join us for a day long Elul Workshop with Kathy Simon

The Nefesh theme for these High Holy days is Interdependence. To prepare for and deepen both our understanding and practices we are holding a one-day workshop/urban Elul retreat on Sunday, August 20 with the incredible Kathy Simon. Kathy has offered workshops to the Nefesh community in the past on Nonviolent Communication (NVC), a set of skills and awareness practices that help us connect more deeply with others and ourselves, both across differences and in everyday life. With grounding in Jewish learning with Rabbi Susan, Kathy will then explore the NVC practice of making requests, and how to create a more easy and joyful flow of contribution in our families, communities, and workplaces. We will playfully explore key concepts like “demands,” “requests,” “strategies,” and “needs” that can help us both internally and in our communication with others. And we’ll look at how to say “no,” to hear “no,” and create more “yeses” all around. The day will include plenty of time for practice, so feel free to bring situations from your life that seem a little stuck.
