Community Sukkah Decorating

Help us decorate our Nefesh sukkah! Join us on the roof of The Commons in Echo Park on Thursday, September 24 from 3-6pm. Everyone is invited to help build the sukkah between 10am and 1pm if they want to come early.

In continuation with our High Holiday 5787 theme of Murmurations, we will be expanding on our Artfully Upcycled Sukkah that we began last year. Many aspects of modern life disregard or ignore how much waste we as humans create. Our lifestyles have massive environmental impact through our everyday habits that are folded into our everyday routines. While we do need systemic policy change at the top, our cultural habits can create forceful currents at ground level.

Let’s rethink what waste means and how we can shift our relationship to waste. We will be making more upcycled decorations in addition to reusing what we upcycled last year! This year our focus will be collecting clean plastic and paper shopping bags and egg cartons. If you have anything else you want to donate, that’s cool too – graphic tees, empty & clean 1-liter plastic soda bottles, etc. We will also be accepting book donations for the The Big Buy Nothing Free Book Fair to keep books out of Landfill. Pay it Forward and clear out your bookshelf!

When: Thursday, September 24, 3pm – 6pm
