Nefesh Intro to Judaism Class

Join Rabbi Aaron for 20 classes as we dive into Jewish learning together. We will engage with primary texts, ritual, prayer, Jewish history, and culture while engaging with some of Nefesh’s core Middot (Jewish values). In addition to gathering for weekly Wednesday evening classes, there will be opportunities to gather as a cohort to celebrate Shabbat and holidays throughout the year. This is an in-person offering only.

At the core of our learning will be a commitment to understanding multiple experiences of Jewish identity. Whether you are looking to deepen your own Jewish learning, are seeking conversion, or are just curious to learn more about Jewish theologies, practices, and life, this is a space for you. Jews have always been a multiethnic, multiracial, and multicultural people, and this class will bring a wide range of voices, both formally and informally, to our learning approach.

In addition to gathering for weekly Wednesday evening classes, there will be opportunities to gather as a cohort to celebrate Shabbat and holidays throughout the year.

When:

Weekly on Wednesday Nights, 7:00-9:15pm (20 classes)

Starting November 4, 2026. Last Class will be April 7, 2027.

Scheduled break will be included

In person at St. Pauls Commons, South Building 2nd Floor (Conference Room & Jonathan Daniels)

Parking & Accessibility:

Garage parking is available with elevator access to the gathering space on Level 1, where all surfaces are paved or carpeted. Please enter the garage at 850 Echo Park Avenue or 850 Laguna Ave and press 001 to be buzzed in. Street level access is on Echo Park Ave by staircase (2 flights). Biking, carpooling, walking, etc. are also encouraged. NOTE: For the safety of our community, please do not attempt to enter or exit through the back gate on Laguna Ave unless you have an accessibility issue.

Pricing:

Kin – $400 single / $600 couple

Non Kin – $700 single / $1000 couple

A $200 deposit is required at registration to secure your spot in the class. We will reach out to you with a payment plan if you put a deposit down at this time, but you are also welcome to pay for the class in full below. This deposit is non-refundable and non-transferrable.

At Nefesh, no one is turned away for lack of funds. If you are interested in taking the class but the cost is a barrier, please be in touch with Melissa (melissa@nefeshla.org). Payment plans are also available.
