Sukkot with Nefesh

October 2, 2020 October 9, 2020 PDT

From walking with grief and gratitude and AWE we enter into the JOY of Sukkot. Yes, from grief and awe into a deeper connection with Life, Beauty, Joy – the open air medicine of z’man simchatenu, the season of our joy. The tradition invites us to build a sukkah (myjewishlearning.com/article/how-to-build-a-sukkah/) and to be outside everyday for a week.

Sukkot begins Friday night 10/2 and we will welcome it in with a Nefesh Shabbat 7pm

On Sukkot the tradition tells us to invite guests, ushpizin, into our sukkah. To do this Nefesh will host virtual potluck gatherings over Zoom during the week of Sukkot. You bring the meal and the outdoors (with or without a sukkah – or indoors feeling the outdoors) and Nefesh community will host meaningful conversation and connection. Each potluck will give a chance for different parts of our community to come together:

Sunday night 10/4 Nefesh Jews of Color will gather, registration link:

Monday night 10/5 Nefesh LGBTQI community will gather:

Tuesday night 10/6 Nefesh elders will gather:

Wednesday night 10/7 Nefesh kids hosted by Nefesh teens will gather for an ice cream social:

Saturday morning 10/10 the full community will gather for Shabbat morning service and virtual potluck following the service.

To our hearts opening to JOY, not from denial but straight through the middle of all that we are living through!

Chag Sukkot Sameach
Happy Sukkot,
Rabbi Susan
