SUMMARY:Encountering the Shadow (Class #2)
DESCRIPTION:Sign up for Encountering the Shadow\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMeet your Shadow (with Rabbi Mel Gottlieb)! \n\n\n\nBeneath the outer social mask we embody\, we each have a hidden shadow we are often unaware of: for example\, an impulsive\, wounded\, sad\, or isolated energy that we try to ignore. But the shadow can actually be a source of vitality and acknowledging it can be a path of healing and greater authenticity. ENCOUNTERING THE SHADOW will describe the Torah’s depiction of three shadow characters found in Torah Travels (pp. 190-211)\, and how each of us encounter our inner shadow in our lives. \n\n\n\nWe will each be invited to meet our dark side\, accepting it\, and learn to use its energies in productive ways. We shall see how our shadow affects our personal choices\, learn to reclaim forbidden or lost feelings and achieve greater self-acceptance. We may learn to recreate relationships\, increase compassion\, and renew creative expression. \n\n\n\nStudents will be encouraged to keep private\, confidential journals to explore and deepen their consciousness and their unique soul. \n\n\n\n— \n\n\n\nRabbi Mel Gottlieb\, Ph.D.\, was ordained at Yeshiva University and holds a doctorate in Mythology/Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. He is President Emeritus of the Academy for Jewish Religion – California and served as well as the Dean of its Rabbinical School. Rabbi Gottlieb has also taught at Columbia University\, Yeshiva University\, and the University of Southern California Graduate School of Social Work\, and served as Hillel Director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Princeton University. \n\n\n\nRabbi Mel recommends that you purchase his book\, Torah Travels: A Psycho-Spiritual Journey Through the Weekly Torah Portion\, in advance of the class. You can purchase it HERE\, or from many other online retailers. \n\n\n\n— \n\n\n\nWhen: Wednesdays\, June 10\, 17 and 24\, 7pm – 8:15pm \n\n\n\nWhere: on Zoom (Zoom link will be emailed to you upon registration

SUMMARY:Collective Courage: Faith-based Resistance Shabbat Lunch & Learn
DESCRIPTION:RSVP for Collective Courage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFaith communities hold something authoritarian power cannot manufacture: moral authority. The legitimacy to say\, this is wrong — and have people believe it. \n\n\n\nThat authority has always been hard-won. Faith communities marched in Birmingham and stood at Selma. They harbored refugees and refused unjust laws. And right now\, faith communities are rising up to defend their neighbors and communities: declaring sanctuary\, showing up at detention centers\, putting their bodies on the line protesting cuts to Medicaid and food stamps.  \n\n\n\nAcross the country\, authoritarian power is consolidating\, dismantling democratic institutions\, targeting vulnerable communities\, and working to make dissent costly. That’s why we need people of all faiths bringing their networks\, their moral authority\, and their collective voice to this moment. Join us June 27 to learn how together.   \n\n\n\nWhat to expect: \n\n\n\n— The authoritarian playbook and how to disrupt it. \n\n\n\n— Pillars of Support — Why power depends on everyday participation\, and the specific role of faith communities. \n\n\n\n— Real-world stories of faith-rooted movements that won. \n\n\n\n— Concrete next steps to plug into local organizing. \n\n\n\nThis training is led by two of the country’s leading anti-authoritarian thinkers and practitioners: Nadine Bloch (training director at Beautiful Trouble) and Scot Nakagawa (co-founder of 22nd Century Institute and author of the Anti-Authoritarian Playbook). \n\n\n\nFree and open to all — clergy\, organizers\, congregation members\, and anyone drawn to faith-rooted approaches to social change. \n\n\n\nCo-hosted by Nefesh\, LA Voice\, CLUE and Sacred Resistance. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDate: Saturday\, June 27 \n\n\n\nTime: 1:00pm to 5:00pm \n\n\n\nLocation: Echo Park Commons
